Store Code (or sampledata) -Demo installations use "sampledata", live installations use a store code that is issued by Total BusinessWare and specific to the store.
If you have multiple stores and a Central Acme the mobile app can be deployed at a hosted (online) Central Acme. Unique Store Codes will grant users access to the various stores. Some changes affect all stores.
Expand UPC-E to UPC-A Y/N. If yes, the result will be a 12 digit value, subject to the treatment below...
Treat 12 digit entries as...
12, 11 (1-11), 11 (2-12) or 10 (2-11) digits.
Treat 13 digit entries as...
Barcodes with Camera Y/N. -Should we try to use your camera as a barcode scanner? See Suggested Camera Barcode Scanner Helper Apps
Barcodes with SPP Scanner -If your device has a serial port protocol (SPP) scanner connected via Bluetooth or other means. See Mobile Barcode Scanners for example settings.
To avoid creation of duplicate items, it's important that all your scanners treat various barcodes consistently.
UPC-E (aka short codes)
A can of SPRITE has UPC-E 04913207, when expanded to UPC-A that is 049000001327. If your scanners are not all set the same you could end up with two different item records for the same can of pop! Best practice is to have your scanners configured to expand UPC-E to UPC-A and store all 12 digits if possible.
UPC-A
It is best practice to store all 12 digits of UPC-A.
EAN13
You guessed it, best practice dictates you store all 13 digits of EAN13.
Acme Bar Code Detective
Acme Bar Code Detective accepts queries about item codes that are 8, 11, 12 or 13 digits long.
Dedicated Mobile Devices with Laser Scanners
Our dedicated mobile device with laser scanner is the most flexible, since the scanner can handle UPC-E to UPC-A expansion and other common treatments, the same as most checkout scanners.
Smart Phones
Android mobile phones do not handle UPC-E to UPC-A expansion.
iPhones and iOS devices can handle UPC-E to UPC-A expansion via some companion apps.
