To enhance camera scanning of bar codes on Android devices...

This is OPTIONAL:

'Barcode Scanner+ (Plus)' by Scott Owen  (make sure you get the PLUS version by Scott Owen, not the regular version)

This scanner cannot expand UPC-E to UPC-A. The app can be configured to do so in settings, but it is not perfect. All 8 digit codes are expanded, and some EAN-8's may get caught in the mix. If that happens you would need to also store the actual EAN-8 as a PLU or dedicated (non-camera) bar code scanenrs will not find the item.

This is an OPTIONAL background app. You will not see it run. To use it in Acme mobile app simply click the button that looks like a barcode.

This improves on the scan engine that is installed by the app, allowing for portrait scanning, easier sighting, etc.

To increase performance go into app settings and shut off barcode types you do not need to read.

On newer phones you may receive warnings that the app was written for older phones. You can ignore these. The app still works fine and is helpful. It is free so the author has chosen not spend time to port it forward.

If you still have issues after adding the app, contact support or get a dedicated Mobile Barcode Scanner

If you have trouble scanning a bar code on a shelf label try scanning the UPC on the actual product itself.

They are often printed at higher resolution and larger sizes.
