A LAN (local area network) Terminal is one that shares Acme data with other terminals on the same local network.

If your goal is to take Acme on the road see Adding Portable Terminal or Take Existing LAN Terminal Portable

Share your data folder.

Make sure that the Data folder is shared across the network and that network users have adequate privileges.

Note that you must grant full access to the share. To do this log on as an administrator and use Windows Explorer to right click on the folder you want to share, click >Properties and then the [Security] tab. Place a check mark to allow full control for everyone or select users and click [OK].

In a workgroup environment all Windows users that will access the shared data folder should be setup with same user name and password on the “server” as they are on their own workstation or you need to grant everyone full access to the shared data. the later is NOT recommended.

It is beyond the scope of this document to explain Windows security; we grant everyone full control (access) to keep setup simple. If you have security concerns seek detailed advice on the topic.

On each workstation map a drive or use UNC (preferred) to access the data folder on the server.

For example if you accepted the default data folder name during installation just map the workstation Z drive to \\servername\data Replace "servername" with the name of YOUR server. Using the same mapped drive letter on each workstation is best practice but not necessary.

Notes:

You do not have to physically take the Acme compact disk to each workstation. Create a sub folder on your shared drive called “Upgrades”, copy from the CD or download folder to it and run from there.
