If you plan to print more than one size of label you may want to consider having more than one Dymo Labelwriter OR having a "Twin Turbo" model that can hold 2 different (sized) rolls of labels. Acme works with models up to 4xx, we do NOT work with 500 and above.
TIP This information is specific to Dymo sizes but also generally applicable to any stock of similar size. |
Examples of common Dymo sizes and the amount of content you can fit on the label:
General Tips:
1.Bar code 128 Auto will fit the most text onto the smallest label. With this type you can fit 25 characters onto about a two inch label and about a 4 characters alphanumeric item number onto a jewelry tag.
2.To fit 25 characters onto a label in code 39 they need to go to a 4inch wide label.
3.The printer detects a hole that is punched in the margin between labels and uses it to determine the end of page. All the Dymo compatible labels we've encountered have worked well.
4.Also see Add Bar Code to Custom Label -very useful information if you need to fit a lot of information into small bar code.
128 can print numbers, most symbols, uppercase and lowercase text as well as functions such as returns and tabs.
Code 39 is more limited, with few exceptions, it can only print numbers 0-9, upper-case letters A-Z, the space character and the following symbols: – . $ / + %.

These (30256) work well when stuck to a 3 x 5 index card. Cards are available online in multiple colors and VERY reasonably priced. Some people prefer to print directly on the index cards. Acme can easily do either!
Most Popular Product Ingredient Label:
Most Popular Shelf Edge Label:
The 19x51 mm (3/4x2) label will fit 12-13 digits into a 128 auto or 10 alphanumeric into a Code 39, or a UPC-A. Dymo stock 30330. This label is also large enough to fit most descriptions.
The 22x22 mm (1x1) label will fit 6 digits into a 128 auto, and 4-5 alphanumeric into a Code 39. Dymo stock 30332.
The 13x25 mm (1/2x1) label will fit 6 digits into a 128 auto, and 4-5 alphanumeric into a Code 39. Dymo stock 30333.
Jewelry Tags (aka rat tail tags). The smallest LabelWriter bar code (128 auto) will fit a 4 character alphanumeric item number onto a jewelry tag. Place the Human readable text on one side of the tag, and the bar code on the other side. If the Jeweler does not need to scan (most do not) than do not use a bar code, print item code on one side and description or List Price on the other.
