Acme can print to label rolls and/or 8.5 x 11 sheets. Rolls are generally preferred because they require less handling and produce no waste. Sheets are sometimes preferred during initial setup as cost per label is usually less.
For printing labels for deli (weigh scale) items see: Label Printing Deli Scales
How to print signs or labels for items that are not scaled:
Items can be added to Label Batches via Acme Desktop and/or the Acme Mobile App. Rolled labels can be printed immediately from within Acme, to select Dymo LabelWriters. See Installing Dymo Label Printer
Sheet label printing is handled via the Acme Data Miner. You can use any Windows printer. (color!)
Sign and Label Stock:
Dymo or Dymo compatible labels are acceptable. Very attractive shelf and "sign" labels can be printed using colored label stock. Consider "removable" labels or "chips" to make changing labels easier.
See Dymo Label Sizes and Use, the information is specific to Dymo sizes but also generally applicable to any stock of similar size.
Index cards in 3x5 or 4x6 size make excellent sign stock. They can be found in white or a myriad of colors. Signs are printed in the same manners as labels.
Some common uses for signs & labels are:
•Item Labels
•Shelf (edge) Labels
•Shelf (sign) Labels.
•Purchase Order Receiving (item) Labels
•Customer Mailing Labels

Making up your own item codes:
If you are concerned about making up your own item codes and conflicting with "real" bar codes on manufactured products, assigned by the UCC, then follow these rules:
It may be easiest just make up your own short codes and print your own labels using a flexible format. 3 or 6 digits or a short string of characters will stay out out of the way of UPC-E*, Produce labels and Scale labels. Short codes composed entirely of digits are easiest to type.
900001 Store product, red ball.
900002 Store product, blue ball.
101 Jim's craft's, large quilt
102 Jim's craft's, medium quilt
If you will never sell produce or scale labeled items you could use 4 or 5 digit codes safely as well.
*UPC-E -set your scanners to send all 8 digits.
It's generally not necessary, but if you wanted legit UPC-A codes for items use "4" as your leading digit, followed by 5 digits that identify the source of the product and 5 digits that identify the product itself. For example:
4-10000-00001 Store product, red ball.
4-10000-00002 Store product, blue ball.
4-20000-00001 Jim's craft's, large quilt
4-20000-00002 Jim's craft's, medium quilt
Since you made them up, they are unique to you. They have no meaning at any other store. Print the labels with 11 digits and ensure your scanners can read them.
