ScaleBarCodes

Enable Scale Bar Codes - choose from Off, Price Embedded or Weight Embedded.

This setting does not effect GS1-128 aka UCC/EAN-128, those bar codes tell Acme which element is embedded, weight or price. At the time of this writing Acme only accommodates GS1-128 weight, not price. See GS1-128 aka UCC/EAN-128

Important: Regardless of bar code type, if you choose Weight Embedded Labels then all items sold in that manner must have a List Price in Acme.

If you choose PRICE Embedded Labels then you must either maintain the price per pound in Acme's List Price field AND in your scale, or leave Acme's List Price at 0.00. More on this is written below.

If it's not a GS1-128, how does Acme know it's a Scale Bar Code? -Acme detects scale bar codes by matching the leading characters ("2", "02", "008") and the length (12=UPC-A, 13=UPC-B, 8=EAN-8). If the "Scanner Sends Checksum" setting is equal to "No", then the bar code length is shortened by one character and the scanner must be set accordingly.

The "Bar Code Format" column indicates how the scale bar code is structured. When you change the "Scanner Sends Checksum" setting the Bar Code Format column reflects the change.

When Acme detects a scale bar code it extracts the Item Number and the total price (implied decimal place) from the bar code and looks up the Item. If the Item is found, it then divides the Item List Price or Price Code  into the bar coded total price to determine the item weight. This information is then posted to the ticket.

5-Digit Price in UPC-A/UPC-B Codes Y/N?

Two formats of UPC-A and UPC-B are supported. You must choose one format or the other. All bar codes in the store must comply to the chosen format.

02IIIIIVPPPP -this is the standard. It includes a checksum and allows for price up to 99.99

02IIIIIPPPPP -this is a hybrid. It does not use a checksum and allows for prices up to 999.99

How are EAN-8's different? -In the case of EAN-8, all Acme can do is look up the item. EAN-8 can be used to identify items that are packaged at a constant volume or weight through Acme’s PLU set up and with appropriate quantities. Viz. Bar Code="00800013"; PLU="0001"; "8 OZ Farmers Cheese"; Quantity=0.5.

Price Embedded Bar Code with a List Price of 00.00  -Acme creates the detail line with a quantity of one. Returns require that the PRICE PER POUND be entered manually. Since items of this nature contain no "system" price they will not be repriced upon change of customer. Trade Discounts are accommodated.

Merge-scan is automatically overridden when a scale code is scanned.
